Overview

Hydrophobic silica aerogel powder is intended for formulators developing low-density coatings, composites and functional fillers. The waterborne slurry route is intended where a pre-dispersed aqueous input is preferable.

Powder and slurry are different product forms. Their figures are presented separately and should not be transferred to a finished coating or composite without formulation-level verification.

Handling / storage

  • Use dust-control and mixing procedures appropriate for fine powders.
  • For slurry systems, establish shear, addition order and viscosity with a lab trial before scale-up.

Selection limits

  • Not a finished insulation system or a substitute for formulation testing.
  • Waterborne slurry data do not establish the performance of a customer's coating after adding binders, pigments or fillers.

Product FAQ

Can powder be added directly to a waterborne coating?

A formulation trial is required to confirm dispersion, viscosity, wetting and the final cured-coating performance.

Does the slurry figure apply to my final coating?

No. It describes the supplied slurry only; the finished coating must be evaluated in its own formulation and film build.
